Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

September is recognized as Prostate Health Month and also Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

Prostate Cancer Awareness Month is celebrated with Twitter chats, prostate cancer screenings, and awareness events across the country. Download our latest social media toolkit here.

In the USA, each year Congressional Resolutions are introduced, there are presentations in Congress, and the President issues a proclamation recognizing Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. You can view the latest Presidential Proclamation hereolder2sm. Proclamations from Governors and others can be found here.

Local and national awareness organizations and professional associations engage in activities designed to raise awareness of the issue and encourage men to talk to their healthcare provider about prostate cancer and early detection.

In the USA, almost 250,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year, and about 34,000 will die from it this year. Early detection is the key to successful treatment. This awareness period, and the organizations and associations that support it, are responsible for saving an untold number of men’s lives by encouraging them to have a discussion with their healthcare provider about prostate cancer and early detection.
